Collection of the raw material: The stem of the palm tree that grows in a humid rural area of the Montecristi canton is removed.

Preselection and cooking of toquilla straw: The best strands of toquilla straw are selected and then cooked in a wood oven for 2 minutes.

Drying and smoking of the toquilla straw: It is dried under the sun during the day, then it is placed in an oven with sulfur to be smoked and obtain the natural beige color.

Hat weaving: After having the raw material ready, we begin to weave the hat template, using 8 strands of toquilla straw, then the crown and ending with the brim.

Finishing and adjustment of the hat: The edges of the fine hat are made and adjusted.

Washing and incensing of the hat: The hat is washed with leaves and soap, then it is incensed with sulfur in an oven.

Dried, peeled and crowned: All the straws that are in excess are cut.

Pounded and Ironed: Pounded with a pot for smoothness, then ironed on a wooden board.

Shape of the hat: The hat is put in a hydraulic press where the style and size are obtained.
